All about Iris!

I joined Girl Scouts when I was in first grade in 2014, it has been a large part of my life since then, teaching me many skills and giving endless learning opportunities. I have learned new skills such as first aid, money management, social and world awareness. We also have been earning badges and completing journeys as a troop, one-by-one teaching expertise in a certain area. By earning money collectivley we have been able to travel together to Portland, San Diego, and go horseback riding. By going on trips like these, where I’m traveling with a group outside of my family, I have learned to live outside of my comfort zone and to embrace the unknown. As a sophomore in high school, I’m glad to have been apart of Girl Scouts for so long and being able to create meaningful connections, comfortable with being uncomfortable and learning many crucial life skills.

As I get older and remain a Girl Scout, my goal is to earn my Gold Award, which is the highest award possible within Girl Scouts. I don’t currently have a specific idea of what I would like to accomplish with my Gold Award but I would like to highlight food allergies within the community. As a person with life threatening food allergies, I often feel like I am excluded from parties or celebrations because I cannot eat the food provided. While unsure about the specific action I would like to do, I would like to highlight the struggles I have dealt with my whole life.
